There’s No Debate, American Security Is The Clear Winner
By the conclusion of the Republican presidential debate in Myrtle Beach in January 2008, American Security ended this year’s primary season with a clear distinction: the only security company in South Carolina to provide security at the four presidential debates held in the state. Through a well-coordinated display of bi-partisanship, American Security ensured a secure environment for the presidential hopefuls and attendees alike at the Republican debates in Columbia and Myrtle Beach and the Democratic debates in Charleston and Orangeburg.
At each debate, American Security personnel operated the walk-through metal detectors and hand wands to ensure no dangerous devices entered the debate setting. Each of the four debates were secured without incident.
American Security President Randy Harrison credits the professionalism of his staff with the smooth execution of debate security. “We put together a team of security guards from across the state that met the standard for high-profile, high-security events. Our team consisted of 25 guards and four American Security managers. Each person knew their role and filled it as expected.”
Harrison said that another factor in American Security’s ability to successfully work each of the debates are the long-term relationships maintained with state and local law enforcement officials. “Our management team is composed of long-term members of South Carolina law enforcement agencies. We understand how these agencies work and how our role fits within their approaches. We work hard to continually communicate with agencies with whom we will be involved at events such as the debates.”
With the campaign moving on to other states, officers and managers have all moved back to their daily responsibilities. Harrison noted that the debates offer an opportunity for higher-profile assignments “which we are very happy to provide.” He also noted, however, that “our bread and butter responsibilities are to protect a wide variety of clients on a daily basis with the same diligence we gave to each of the debates.”
